eSIM - The Future

Today I am going to inform you that the future of our smartphone will change with the very best technology of the future. There is talk of eSIM here,eSIM is a technology that after coming, perhaps within few years physical SIM cards will completely disappear from our market.
eSIM

 So What is eSIM?

A SIM, meaning "Subscriber Identity Module", basically contains information authenticating your identity for a carrier. In other words, the SIM card is one that tells a carrier if you are the same - and without it, the carrier would not know that you subscribed to their network, and thus they would not let you use their cell tower Will let.

An eSIM will come in the form of an integrated SIM chip that cannot be removed from a device and is not even required. eSIM is sometimes called eUICC (embedded universal circuit card). Information on eSIM will be rewritten by operators. Operators may be able to update your identification information online. So now you will not need new eSIM for the new operator.

eSIM is a smaller version of embedded SIM, where SIM means Subscriber Identity Module. So, an eSIM is an Embedded Subscriber Identity Module. eSIM is a SIM-card embedded in a mobile device. SIM stores all the information needed to identify and authenticate mobile subscribers.

So now this means that you will not be able to change your SIM card anymore, only the operator will be able to change.

Let's go into detail about it now-

An eSIM is non-removable and is attached to the phone along with other internal components. You do not have to remove it. With such an embedded standard, the idea is that you can switch to a new operator without inserting a specific SIM card. All this is done through software.

For example, the same Apple Watch 4 can be used on Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint in the US. With eSIM, your phone has a few new settings dedicated to your SIM card that allow you to switch between lines and carriers and manage your account.

The future of eSIM in India-

Apple and Samsung are leading the pack within the telecommunications industry and are in talks with network providers to adopt eSIM for upcoming smartphones. Apple has already equipped some iPads with a single SIM, based on their version of embedded SIM technology.

However, in the long run, its cost should be reduced and the life and usage of a device should also be extended. Since you don't have to worry about compatibility, you don't have to change your device when you want to change the operator.

With the iPhone XS and XS Max, we are getting a glimpse of the future where all phones will use e SIMS. GSMA is an organization that represents the interests of mobile operators around the world and has announced a standard for a new type of SIM.

Let's know What is GSM-

Apart from Samsung and Apple, AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Hutchison Whampoa, Orange, Telefónica (current O2 owners) and Vodafone are also on board.

Network data that carries a standard SIM card will be rewriteable on future eSIM devices, so all you have to do is make one or two phone calls to change the operator. There will be another advantage while travelling. If you are going to spend a lot of time abroad, where roaming charges can be extorted, it will be very easy to switch to a local network. Another problem with the physical SIM card is that it is currently in two or three sizes.

Device support eSIM-

Apple has turned to eSIM for the new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro and Pro, along with the iPad Pro, Apple Watch Series 3 and Watch Series 4 and Series 5, as well as the iPhone XS and XS Max and the iPhone XR. Can next year's iPhone 12 go full eSIM? Google's Pixel 2 also supported eSIM but it was originally used only in the US for Google's Google Fi. Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL and new Pixel 4 and Pixel 4

Also, some smartphones of Samsung support eSIM technology.

Which mobile network operators support eSIM technology-

eSIM technology arrived in India earlier this year when Apple launched the LTE version of Apple Watch Series 3. Airtel and Jio are the first telecom operators in India to have collaborated with nine other countries where eSIM technology is supported.

Also recently, Vodafone (VI) has started this service. Currently, this service has been started in cities like Delhi.

While the partnership with Airtel and Reliance Jio will open revenue streams for Apple, as it will basically dominate the segment and pave ways for specially-curated data plans, much like what BlackBerry offered many years ago. Airtel and Reliance Jio already offer cellular services for eSIM on the Apple Watch Series LTE version. To activate eSIM on the iPhone, however, the chosen telecom operator will provide the user with necessary details such as a QR code, after scanning which the settings and everything else needed for the setup will be automatically downloaded on the iPhone. Alternatively, there will be individual settings available where users can enter the parameters, as given by the carrier, to activate the eSIM.

Interestingly, Apple isn’t the first company to have manufactured the eSIM functionality on the phones. Google implemented the eSIM technology on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, however, the availability was restricted to the US markets. Besides the US, the eSIM technology is available in nine other countries – Austria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, India, Spain, the UK.

Conclusion -

After Apple announced the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone Xr, the tussle between the Android users and iPhone users finally reached to the culmination where the decade-old jokes about dual SIM cards met demise. With the introduction of eSIM cards on iPhones, Apple finally enters the world of dual SIM smartphones available worldwide. India alone has 98 per cent dual-SIM smartphones, which reinstates its demand in the country. Apple, being the latest entrant to the dual-SIM phone manufacturer league, will sweep a reasonable share in the market as it will open new streams for revenue generation.eSIM technology arrived in India earlier this year when Apple launched the LTE version of the Apple Watch Series 3. Airtel and Jio are the first telecom operators in India that have caught up with the carriers in as many as nine other countries where eSIM technology is supported.

Well in further posts, we will know how to activate the SIM and what are its advantages and what are the disadvantages.
